Angel's Blade: Power (Angel Series Book 1) Page 3
“You can’t have her!” the elder pulled out a knife, but then Darrengiy put out his hand forming the same glowing ring around the elders neck like the one before. It squeezed so tightly that it drew blood and sent him to his knees.
“Run,” the voice said, “go, now!”
Angel pulled Shalina back, but stopped when he heard a scream. The elder had bled out onto his cloak within a few second, and fell flat on the stage. Dead.
“I said go!”
The villagers freaked and started running in all directions, as if they could escape what was going to happen next.
Angel and Shalina were running as fast as they could while holding hands, when lightning began to strike all around them. Angel stopped, just to be cautious, and Shalina ran into the back of him again.
“What are we going to do?” Shalina yelled. Villagers laid dead on the ground after being struck by lightning, while some were still running for shelter.
Angel looked back to see Darrengiy jump down from the stage with a grin.
“Angel, he’s coming!” Shalina yelled, “We have to go!”
Angel decided to take his chance and run. There was nothing else he could possibly do but try to escape. They both ran as fast as they could, and only made it a few feet before he felt Shalina’s hand slip from his.
“Angel!” Shalina yelled.
An invisible force had yanked Shalina back, and onto the ground. Angel froze when he turned around to see Darrengiy standing right behind her.
Shalina looked back in fear at the evil man, and couldn’t seem to move.
Darrengiy reached his hand down to her, “why don’t you come with me,” he said kindly.
Even though he sounded kind, his black eyes said something completely different. She had just witnessed this man kill an elder, and then a ton of villagers. Darrengiy wasn’t kind, because he was the devil himself.
“I’ll only ask once,” Darrengiy said with a smile.
Angel sprinted towards Darrengiy, but was pushed back by the same invisible force that pulled Shalina away from him.
“Or, I could kill your friend,” Darrengiy said.
Shalina turned back to Angel, who had gotten back to his feet and ran for them again.
“What will it be?” Darrengiy asked.
“Get away from her!” Angel yelled.
“I’m here,” the voice said, “use me.”
Angel felt a jolt of power rush through him, like somehow he gained more energy.
Shalina had taken Darrengiy’s hand and stood to her feet, then she looked back at Angel with tears in her eyes.
“No!” Angel ran faster towards them and felt a tingle in his right hand. He clenched his fist and felt something hard pressed against his palm. At that moment he knew that he could save her, he knew he could keep her safe, and all he had to do was use the cold object in his hand.
Darrengiy frowned, then raised his hand in the air. He knew exactly what it was that was forming in Angel’s hand, and wasn’t going to stick around for him to use it. The only thing that could kill him...The Soul Blade.
Shalina looked around herself and noticed how the wind had picked up so quickly that she could see it. She was standing in the middle of what looked to be a tornado, waiting to be taken away. When she looked up she saw the sun shining in, and prayed to the gods that Angel would save her, but he wasn’t fast enough, and he was too late.
“Shalina!” Angel gripped the sword in his hand, ready to thrust it through Darrengiy, but right before he got close enough, the tornado disappeared in a flash. The last thing he saw was Shalina’s blue eyes filling with tears...and then she was gone.
Chapter 3: War-part 1
Year: 6017
Machintile
Sixteen year old Tren kissed Ara passionately, as he did many days on his father’s couch. Nothing had changed about them since childhood, except for the fact that they had moved onto the tongue sucking stage.
At sixteen years old, Trenza’s hormones were raging, making him want to finally move onto the next level. He ran his fingers through Ara’s long black hair and gently laid her down on the couch.
“Wait, Trenza,” Ara laughed, “hold on.”
“What is it?” Tren sat up, almost in a panic, “is something wrong?”
“No, I was just hoping that you had protection,” Ara said as she sat up on her elbows.
Tren sighed with relief, glad that the moment wasn’t ruined, “duh,” Tren reached into his pocket and pulled out a condom, still sealed in its wrapper.
Ara looked from the condom, to Tren, and then laid back down, ready to lose her virginity to the boy she loved.
Tren took a deep breath and begun unwrapping the condom with shaking hands. Once it was off, he stared at the rubbery plastic for a moment, then began to quickly unbuckle his pants. It was finally time to do what he had always been waiting for, it was time to-
The ground shook violently, knocking Tren off of the couch. He popped his head back up with a confused look on his face, “what was that?”
Ara shot up and looked out of the window with Tren right behind her.
“What the hell?” Tren stood up and watched as a ball of fire went crashing down into a few houses a couple of blocks away.
“Firow,” Ara jumped off of the couch, “they got here fast,” she pulled out a gun from her belt.
Tren looked from outside, to Ara, and then to the condom in his hand, “you sure we can’t just-” there was another crash, this time closer, causing Tren to drop the condom on the floor, “I guess not,” he threw his hands in the air in disappointment.
Ara smiled at her childhood friend, but then went into serious mode, “I am engaged for...” the automated gun said.
“War,” Ara answered.
“Engaging lethal systems now,” the gun spoke again.
Ara pulled off her shirt and slipped out of her shorts, then twisted the black armored watch on her wrist, “armor on,” she commanded. The black armor from the watch began to stretch up Ara’s arm, and once it was to her neck it spread down her other arm, then soon the rest of her torso. After that, Ara pulled two metal bracelets from her short pockets and locked them around her ankles. The silver metal material began spreading up her legs and completely covered the lower half of her body.
Tren looked Ara up and down, admiring how the armor fit her like a tight body suit, then was distracted again by the loud blasts from the fire balls. He then took his attention from Ara and reached into his belt for his two guns, “you ready?” Tren asked. He tightened his grip on the pistols so that they could read his finger prints. Seconds later, the same material from the guns spread up to his shoulders and around his neck, then over his face. Two slots for his eyes were slid open for him to see.
“Let’s g-”
The front door was kicked open by Firow soldiers, “put down your weapons! Put down-”
Tren and Ara began shooting at their enemies, ending their lives before they had the chance to attack. They knew for a fact that it took Firow soldiers longer to attack because fire couldn’t travel as fast as a bullet, therefore giving them the advantage.
“C’mon,” Tren said to Ara. They ran outside into a storm of fireballs that came down like mini meteors. There were Machintile and Firow citizens fighting in the streets and in the houses. The Firow’s probably thought that they could get a sneak attack on Machintile, but they had already been trained on surprise attacks and invasions over one hundred times. There was no way that Firow would be winning this war.
Tren grabbed Ara by her shoulder and they ducked behind a bush in front of his house, “Remember, just like we were trained. Gather all the children that you can, and kill any Firow soldier on sight. Get the children to the underground shelter, and I’ll go to the base to gather orders.”
“Be careful, okay?” Ara said taking a deep breath.
“I will, I’ll contact you after I get my orders,” Tren’s facial armor slid down and they kissed, then it covered h
im up again.
Three more fireball’s came down, “they’re getting serious, be safe,” Tren sprinted from the protection of the bush, and was headed for the base.
Oceania
On one of the very few islands sat Jesse, Amy, and Alcia. They all enjoyed the view of the ocean from the surface, because it wasn’t something that they got to see very often. At least not as much as they did when they were kids.
Alcia sat with her knees curled up, and her arms wrapped around them. She smiled at the dolphins that were leaping through the air half a mile away, enjoying the view and the smell of the surface air.
“This is lovely,” Amy said, lying flat on her back with her arms stretched outwards.
“Yeah,” Jesse said, “it’s so peaceful.”
“And quiet,” Amy added.
They had trained long and hard for the past few weeks, and were completely exhausted. The instructors were told that they could be attacked any day now, and that the students had to be ready, so they pushed them all to train harder.
Alcia smiled at her friends and moved her loose brown hair behind her ear. She looked up when she saw something twinkle in the sky, “a star?”
“What you say, Alcia?” Amy asked.
Alcia watched as the star got bigger and bigger, then jumped to her feet when she realized that it wasn’t a start at all.
Amy shot up, “what is it?”
“It’s starting...” Alcia recognized the large machines in the air from her studies during school. They were called Zultrains. Large air crafts, in the shape of a huge metal blimp, which carried the soldiers into the new world, and also dropped bombs or whatever else they may have built it to do. These particular Zultrains were from Machintile, a world where creating machines were their specialty.
“Zultrains,” Jesse said.
“We have to get back into the water. It’ll take a minute for them to prepare to go under,” Alcia started, “you guys get everyone you can and go to the protection site, I’ll warn the castle men.”
The three of them splashed into the ocean, then dove under. Alcia swam as fast as she could to the bottom of the sea, and straight to the castle. Once she was outside the golden doors, she banged as hard as she could, and hoped that someone would open the doors.
“Open up!” Alcia yelled. She banged on the door again.
Seconds later, the large doors creaked open and she ran into the dry castle, “everyone!”
The guards and soldiers continued working as if they didn’t hear her.
“Guards...” Alcia yelled in a panic, but no one was listening, and the king was nowhere in sight, “Listen to me!” Alcia waved her arms, sending the water that was flowing around the border of the floor, into the air, and then down on all of the guards.
“What do you think you’re doing child?” One soldier asked angrily.
Alcia now had everyone’s attention, “Where is the king? I have news.”
“News of what?”
“War,” Alcia panted, “war has started. Machintile is here.”
The soldier stared at Alcia in shock while the rest of them whispered among each other.
“Did you hear me!? Machintile is here!” Alcia yelled.
The guard snapped out of it and turned to another guard, who was still in shock, “go and warn the king. Tell him that the war is about to begin! Everyone, get prepared!”
Everyone in the castle ran in different directions, preparing for Machinians to attack on their territory.
The guard that gave the order started to run off, when Alcia stopped him, “wait!”
The guard looked back with urgency, “what is it?”
“A suit. I need a suit, I can fight with you,” Alcia said.
“No, the women and children-”
“Oh, let the girl get a suit, Tom,” Mr. Luther said from behind Alcia, “who’s it gonna hurt?”
The guard, Tom, sighed, and motioned for Alcia to follow. Alcia smiled, and nodded at Mr. Luther, who stood there with his arms folded, then followed Tom down the long hallway to the changing quarters where the men were suiting up. No one seemed to mind that a girl had just entered the room as they changed, and she figured it was because they were all too worried about the fight ahead of them.
Tom ran to a large locker where there were only small suits left hanging, and snatched one off, “here,” he tossed it to Alcia, then disappeared into the crowd of shirtless men.
Alcia held up her navy blue one piece suit, and admired the golden design going down the sides. She had always dreamed of wearing one of these bullet proof suits, and couldn’t wait to put it on.
None of the men paid Alcia any attention as she quickly undressed down to just her underwear, and slid on the suit, then zipped it up to her neck. It fit her perfectly, hugging her curves and showing the toned definition of her arms and legs.
“Let’s head out!” someone yelled.
The crowd of soldiers ran out of the changing quarters in two long lines. Once they all made it outside of the castle, they watched as the Zultrain entered the ocean from a distance.
"You ready?” Mr. Luther asked, walking up to Alcia in his navy blue suit.
“Yes-I think so,” Alcia took a deep breath to hold back her jitters.
Mr. Luther rested his hand on Alcia’s shoulder, “you were my best student,” he looked up at the Zultrain, “you’ll be just fine.”
Alcia nodded, but started to doubt herself. She clenched her fist and closed her eyes to calm herself down.
“They’re attacking!” Someone yelled.
Alcia opened her eyes to see multiple bullets headed in their direction like a school of piranhas. She kicked off of the floor as hard as she could and put her hands in front of her, then she pushed the water forward, and stopped the bullets in place.
The soldiers watched with their mouths dropped open as the silver pieces of metal floated to the ocean floor.
“Attack!” Tom yelled.
The soldiers jumped as hard as they could and swam their fastest towards the flyer, ready to take victory.
Varenwhile
A tall, long haired Zyas stretched out the string of his bow, and then let the arrow slip through his fingers and land on the bull’s eye that he carved out on a tree.
“That makes three in a row sister,” Zyas said with confidence.
Zaray laughed, “You’re almost as good as me, or should I say as good as I was.”
“Better,” Zyas nodded.
“Well, now. I see you’ve gotten pretty good,” Zyas’s father said as he walked towards his son. He was a tall dark skinned man, with long black hair he kept in a ponytail.
“Yes, I’ve gotten in a lot of practice, father,” Zyas said nervously.
“Of course, and now that you’re such a good shot, why don’t you go and get me a duck, and a pitcher of water?”
Zaray laughed, “I bet you regret your practicing now.”
Zyas sighed with a smile, “Yes, father,” he nodded, then headed out towards the lake. He looked up at the gloomy sky and took in the wonderful smell of the oncoming rain, “great,” he had just realized that he would be searching for food in the pouring rain.
Zyas made it over to the lake and pulled out his bow and arrow. He spotted a bird flying over the lake and aimed at it, “they will have to be satisfied with this,” he said. He followed the bird with his arrow until he got a clear shot, then fired it with a whistle.
The arrow hit the bird and sent it down into the lake. Zyas took off his sandals and was about to retrieve his dinner before it sunk out of reach, but stopped when the water looked to be boiling.
“What the...” Zyas stepped back and watched the lake for a second, then almost lost his balance when the water began to make a shape as it rose higher from the surface. He couldn’t make it out at first, but then after a few seconds he could see them clearly, “horses?”
Zyas took a step forward to get a better look at the three clear water horses, and admired their bea
uty as they swung their tails and neighed. Soon, two more horses appeared and shook themselves off onto the other horses.
“Zyas, did you need some he-” Zaray stopped in her tracks, a few feet behind Zyas, when she saw the horses standing on water.
“Sister,” Zyas looked back at Zaray with a smile, but then it faded when he saw her fearful expression.
Zaray took a step back, “Zyas, we have to go.”
“What? But-”
“Zyas!” Zaray yanked out her bow and arrow and shot at an Oceanian who jumped out of the water and onto a horse.
Zyas looked back to the horses, where he saw Oceanians rising from the water, then blasted into a full sprint passed his sister, “run Zaray! Run!”
Zaray shook her head and followed behind Zyas. When they got back to their home unfollowed, they ran inside and gathered as many arrows as they could find.
“What’s going on?” Father asked as he watched his children in confusion.
“Oceanians,” Zyas said as he stuffed his arrows into his quiver.
Zaray did the same, and turned to Zyas, “go and warn the village.”
“What? Why m-”
“We don’t have time for this! Go and warn the village now! I’ll stay here and take out as many as I can.”
Their father picked up his old bow and a few arrows, “I’ll fight with you.”
The three of them stood there in silence for a moment while trying to take in what was happening, and what they had up ahead of them.
“You two be safe, I’ll be right back,” Zyas said while clenching his bow, “right back!” he ran outside and jumped onto his white stallion. With a slight kick, the horse sped off into the woods and in the direction of the village.
The entire ride there, Zyas was worried about his family, and possibly being thrown off of his horse with every jump. The trees flew by him in a blur, and all he could see was what was in front of him. When he arrived to the quiet village, he was actually shocked by how much it had changed since he was a child.
The happy busy village was quiet and dull. There were a few children playing in the middle of the road, but that was the only sign of joy. He was happy that his parents had made him stay far away, so not to be corrupted by the people, and what they’ve become.
